During the early evening of 1 November 1944, in waters near Leyte,  an "Oscar" fighter crashed into Anderson's port side, aft of the break in the deck.   Anderson suffered 14 dead and 22 wounded. Two of the wounded later died. One of the casualties was Anderson's medical officer, and nearby destroyer Bush sent medical assistance.  Departing Leyte on 3 November 1944 and steaming via Hollandia, Manus, and Majuro, Anderson arrived at Pearl Harbor on 29 November 1944. From there Anderson proceeded to San Francisco, where she moored on 9 December to begin repairs.
