On October 25, 1944, during the final phase
of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Kitkun Bay shot down one Japanese
suicide aircraft but then was struck by another on the ship’s port catwalk.
The next day Kitkun Bay sailed for the Admiralty Islands for
replenishment and repairs. 1 killed; 16 wounded.
