USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) 

 
ллллллллллл  Navy Presidential Unit Citation

On the morning of May 11, 1945, while supporting the Okinawa invasion, Bunker Hill was hit and severely damaged by two suicide planes. Gasoline fires flamed up, several explosions took place and heavy casualties resulted. Although badly crippled she managed to return to Bremerton via Pearl Harbor.  346 killed; 43 missing and presumed dead; 264 wounded.
