At Okinawa, Nevada
took part in the pre-invasion bombardment. In support of the invasion,
Nevada’s guns fired at Japanese airfields, shore defenses, supply dumps,
and troop concentrations. On March 27, 1945, 11 men were killed and a main
turret damaged when Nevada was struck by a suicide plane.
