On 26 March 1945,
Gilmer was struck and damaged by a suicide aircraft which hit her galley
deckhouse. One crewman was killed and 3 were wounded. Gilmer left Okinawa for repairs on
9 April but returned there to
resume patrol duties on 4 July .
