Blind Pilot Gallery:
When Ed Jackson a
VF-112 pilot flying from carrier
Philippine Sea
(CV-47) was blinded during a 1950 strike mission over North Korea, Dayl
Crow, Jackson’s wingman managed to “talk” his blinded buddy back to the
vicinity of the carrier. “Phil Sea” Landing Signal Officer L.K. “Les”
Bruestle then took over, guiding Jackson to a miraculously “routine” landing
on the carrier’s short, pitching deck.
